Terms and Conditions of joining an Ecosystem Restoration Community

Congratulations on your decision to participate in the experience of restoring our degrading planet and finding a pathway for humanity to thrive with nature on this earth. Humanity will be grateful, and you will feel great!

Before you sign up, make sure you understand the terms and conditions that apply to your participation in the work of an Ecosystem Restoration Community (from here on “ERC”).

We ask you to:

  • Follow our Code of Conduct
  • Understand the Health and Safety Risks and Measures at the ERC you are going to visit
  • Understand the insurances you need before and during your travel
  • Understand the Cancellation and Refund policy of your booking

And finally, we want to make sure you understand our policies in relation to payments made using a bank in the Single European Payment Area (SEPA).

Each of these is further explained below.

Code of Conduct

We strongly believe that an experience at an ERC must be a safe and pleasurable one. To explain what that means, the ERC movement uses a code of conduct we ask all that are involved in ERC to adhere to. You can find the latest text of this Code of Conduct here. By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you also agree to adhere to our Code of Conduct.

Health and Safety Risks and Measures

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. Most ERCs are in locations that are completely safe for you to travel to. Some restoration communities are in locations where there is civil unrest, higher levels of crime, or in areas where there could be extreme natural events (earthquakes, tornados, volcanic eruptions). We strongly advise you to check with your national authority’s travel advisory service to see if there are specific travel advisories for the region you are travelling to. We strongly advise you to comply with that travel advisory. If there is a negative travel advisory for the area you plan to go to, we want to impress on you that it is your decision to not heed the warnings and go. ERC can then not be liable in that situation if something happens to you. By accepting these terms and conditions you have stated that you are aware of any travel advisories if they exist, and that you understand that all liabilities rest with you in case you decided to travel to an area for which there is a negative travel advisory from your government. ERC will deny all liabilities for injury, sickness, kidnapping, or the impact of terrorism and war where a negative travel advisory for your country of citizenship and/or residence existed at the time of your travel.

Work at camps is usually safe. The Community Restoration Leaders make your safety their highest priority too. But you will be working with tools and sometimes even (heavy) machinery. Sometimes the terrain can be slightly treacherous. Heat or cold can become a problem for people at work that do not take the necessary measures to prevent injury from weather conditions. Especially in remote locations, all people at an ERC will need to watch out for each other’s safety. Each ERC will have developed a health and safety policy that they will apply. By accepting these terms and conditions, you accept the obligation to inform yourself about the Health and Safety Policy of the ERC to which you are travelling, to pay attention to and adhere to any safety instructions and briefings and conduct yourself in a matter that ensures the safety of all others with whom you will be at work at an ERC. ERC will not accept any liability in situations that arise from you not complying to the abovementioned conditions of safety.

Insurances

It is important that you are financially able to carry the cost of medical care or repatriation in case of injury or illness. You are advised to organise your own travel health insurance, and to ensure that local medical care and repatriation are covered by this insurance. The ERC you are visiting will not be able to support these costs, unless they are clearly liable for your injury and costs. Each ERC is to be insured to be able to cover those costs in case they are indeed liable for your health costs. By accepting these terms and conditions you claim that you have understood this instruction. ERC cannot provide you with financial support in case of injury or sickness.

It is also important that in case you cause injury or damage through negligence or wilfully, that you may be liable for the costs incurred by the victim. It is therefore important to be insured against such damages and liabilities. By accepting these terms and conditions you claim that you have understood this instruction. ERC cannot provide you with financial support in the situation where you are personally liable for any injury or damage you have caused.

Finally, it is important for you to have travel cancellation insurance, just in case circumstances force us to cancel your trip to the ERC you are aiming to travel to. ERC is not in a position to refund your travel costs in such an instance. By accepting these terms and conditions you state that you are aware that you have to cover your travel costs, if an ERC cancels the course or experience.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

If you have signed up to an experience or course at an ERC, and the experience or course is cancelled you have the full right to be compensated for that payment. If you have already booked your travel, ERC is not able to compensate you for that loss. Hence, you are strongly advised to have travel cancellation insurance.

If for any reason you are not able to attend the event after having signed up, we will be able to refund the costs according to the following schedule:

  • 1 month (4 weeks) before start date: full refund.
  • 1 month to 2 weeks (14 days) before start date: 50% refund
  • Less than 2 weeks (14 days) before start date: no refund

Please note that refunds can take up to 14 days to process.

By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you state that you have read and understood, and agreed to the Cancellation and Refund policy of the ERC you signed up to.

Guarantee of payment in the case of SEPA

When making a booking through our platform through the SEPA system (a Single European Payment Area Payment, usually made through a European bank from a bank account with an IBAN number in Europe), you guarantee the payment that you have made. In accepting these terms and conditions, you allow the Ecosystem Restoration Foundation to reclaim any chargebacks from your account which you have initiated prior to the experience, course or event you booked. You will not be allowed to participate in the event, experience, or course if you have initiated a chargeback prior to your arrival. A chargeback after your arrival will be disputed by the Ecosystem Restoration Foundation and you agree that we will undertake action with your bank to recoup the amount and costs.
