Henbant is a home and a farm; it is an abundant, thriving ecosystem that produces real food whilst also building biodiversity, soil, income, resilience, and community and does so in a way that is enjoyable for all who work, live and visit. Henbant is proving that a more beautiful world is possible, and they encourage others to do the same.
The farm is located between the mountains and sea in North West Wales. The land would historically have been a Mosaic Atlantic Rainforest. It has been inhabited for a long time, but over the last few hundred years local agriculture has moved more towards intensive sheep farming.
Henbant’s goal is to restore a productive woodland glade system that allows the fauna and climatic effects of the rainforest whilst also providing for the needs of local humans. They are working towards 100 productive silvopsatoral glades, a bio intensive market garden and a community centric space offering events, courses, cafe, farm shop and forest school.
The change happening at Henbant is incredible. They have gone from depleted sheep pasture to being the farm producing the most food, creating the most jobs, hosting the most wildlife, growing the most trees, teaching the most people and creating the most jobs of any farm in their watershed. And they are passionate about this journey they are on.
Henbant farm looks very different now to when they started. They have planted over 20,000 trees, they’re feeding 80 families per week, and have some the UK’s most interesting agroforestry systems on site.
Henbant works closely with Land Workers Alliance, Nature Friendly Farming Network and The Permaculture Association (UK).
